LMRD #865, Tuesday, Mar 22, 2022 ~~Quapaw Canoe Company~~ Memphis ~ Clarksdale ~ Vicksburg
Memphis, Capt. “Mississippi" Matthew Burdine has arrived out of the Swampy Heart of the Muddy Mississippi Delta, after a very short Wall Street career, but followed by a very long 10-year stint guiding rafts in Colorado & Utah whitewater Canyons, to dig into life and community along the Lower Mississippi! He moved into Mud Island last month with 2 new voyageur canoes (same size as our standard size canoes — 29 feet long, seating for 14), and has opened up his own branch of the Quapaw Canoe Company - Memphis, based on Mud Island.
Capt. Matthew is top notch guide with decades of experience — and also an excellent cook, naturalist, and story teller (in the salty vein of the big river tradition). He arrives with a deep passion for adventure — and the American wilderness!

John Ruskey may you teach Matthew all about the CORPS OF DISCOVERY so he can lead the next journey in freshly made dugout canoes from the MISSISSIPPI to the PACIFIC. It was on this date March 23,2006 when we proceeded on from FORT CLATSOP in Oregon in AMERICA'S DUGOUT CANOE MATO CHANTE. FIRST SQUAD began paddling up the Mighty Columbia River. I envision bringing school children from the land of the Butterflies to St. Louis on September 23,2022 to mark the 16th anniversary of FIRST SQUAD paddling with over 100 people to the cobblestones under the arch. Plan your work and work the plan PADDLES UP TO THE MIGHTY JOHN RUSKEY!
