LMRD#874 River Days of Action Community Trash Pickup The River Days of Action Community Trash Pickup is a roundtrip voyageur canoe paddle on the biggest river in North America, the Mighty Mississippi. Location is Prairie Point Towhead (AKA Buck Island), which houses big beaches, swim holes, birds, turtles, and other wildlife. This round trip paddle affords an incredible variety of giant sandbars, wetlands, gravel/fossil bars, deep willow forests, and miles of beaches to swim from or walk along. Prairie Point Towhead is found just north of Helena, AR. 9am meet at the big ramp in the Helena Harbor. (or if coming from Clarksdale area, meet at 8am at our base in downtown Clarksdale and follow us to river in your own vehicle) Round-trip paddle from Helena Harbor. Together, with our neighbors in nearly all ten states the Mississippi flows through or borders, we are taking action to create a healthier River for people, land, water, and wildlife. 1mississippi.org/river-days-of-action/ for more info Cost: Free for the first 10 participants. $50 after that per person. Meet Place: Meet: 8am Quapaw Canoe Company downtown Clarksdale, MS ~OR~ Meet: 9am Helena Harbor in the parking area near boardwalk at the big ramp, downtown Helena, AR Schedule: 9am Pack and Push off from downtown Helena Harbor 10am: Buck Island (AKA Prairie Point Towhead) 11am: 1hr trash pickup (and other conservation activities) 12noon Lunch: Buck Island 1pm: 1hr trash pickup (and other conservation activities) End: 3-4pm Helena Harbor
Pack in Daypack or Drybag: Each person should pack: -waterbottles (at least 2 per person) -snacks -lunch -sun protection -gloves for picking up trash Quapaw Canoe Company provides: -big canoes, guides, paddles & life jackets (no previous experience necessary, but must be willing to paddle, and in so me places hard paddling!) -trash bags for pickup -5-gal jug of water to refill your personal water bottles Optional: -cell phone -camera -bird book -binoculars Note: Pack any electronics in dry bag, dry box, or zip lock bags Water Bottle Refill: We’ll pack a 5-gal jug of water to refill your personal water bottles.
