…the refreshing joy of water...
...slacking the thirst, creating life, new beginnings, and a first swim in the Mississippi River!
Friday, Dec 15, Art Show with Wilson Fellows Danny Broadway, Thad Lee, Claire Hardy and John Ruskey. Over the past year we've been exploring creative pathways within Wilson, an otherworldly intentional community in the middle of the Arkansas Delta, an island of peace, a garden of Eden. 5-7pm in the Old Wilson Theater, downtown Wilson, AR. Performance by Memphis Opera at 7pm.
I’ve decided to open up my sketchbook and feature the raw paintings that come directly from the heart, as expressed in the watercolor paintbrush. Lots of squirrels…
…and fish…. and birds… fallen angels…
…lots of fallen angels, spirits departed perhaps, but the body left behind in elegant posture, as if a fallen angel, a testament to the beauty — and fragility — of life…
…other dead things too…. roadkill…
…the modern artist need look no further than roads and highways for perfectly composed subjects…. (but beware — you could become roadkill yourself!)…
…other happier subjects also, the scenes of life…
…the refreshing joy of water, slacking the thirst, creating life, new beginnings, and a first swim in the Mississippi River…
Queens… and Kings….

Wilson Fellows: Artist-in-residence during 2023 with Danny Broadway, Thad Lee Claire Hardy and John Ruskey. Visit Wilson for good food, gardens galore, great schools, cultural activities & events, a swanky micro-hotel, and a unique archeological museum in town square. Artwork displayed in loft gallery inside The Grange.
Wilson sits just over the big river levee behind Island 35 and the 2nd Chickasaw Bluff, on blues highway 61, between Marion (Sultana Museum) and Osceola (Son Seals, Albert King). This is one of my favorite stretches of river. And one of the most spectacular. The four Chickasaw Bluffs leading into Memphis.
Note: Wilson Fellows will be highlighted in a group exhibition at Dixon Gallery & Gardens, Memphis, July 14 – September 29, 2024.
